New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith admitted he felt a coaching change ‘could be good for us all’ when asked on coach Rex Ryan’s status with the team.
The New York Jets are counting the seconds until this disaster of a 2014 NFL season comes to a merciful end. Once it does, many expect the team to part ways with their coaching staff and perhaps even the front office.

Rebuild will be the word and that likely won’t include current coach Rex Ryan.
It may or may not also include quarterback Geno Smith, who shared his thoughts on the potential for change in the coaching ranks.
“It is all about what you make it,” Smith said of a coaching change, per the Star-Ledger. Smith had experience with such at West Virginia University, where coach Bill Stewart was fired during Smith’s tenure as quarterback.
“I think the toughest part about it is not being able to continue to play for the same coach, the same guy that you learned to love, you invest so much in, and you believe (in) them. To reset and readjust is a tough thing to do, but we are professionals and we have to do it. A change could be good for us all. So if it happens, when it happens, then we will see.”
Of course, Smith had considerably less to say about his own chances of making the roster next year. It stands to reason that a new coach and GM won’t want to roll into their first season together solely with a guy who’s given the ball away 40 times in his first two NFL seasons.
Given where the Jets will roughly stand in the draft and beyond, it’s safe to say that Geno Smith will also have to look over his shoulder in a week’s time, when a new crew will almost certainly explore all outside options at quarterback.
