The New York Jets have apparently crossed Jim Harbaugh off their coach list a long time ago.
It’s no secret that the Jets are probably going to be looking for a new coach after their season ends on Sunday. It’s also no secret that current San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh is probably going to be looking for a new job shortly after the Niners’ season ends on Sunday. The Jets were rumored to be one of the possible landing places for Harbaugh. Not so, says Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated.
Of course, the Jets owner is planning to hire Charley Casserly as a consultant to help him clean house, so maybe he’ll change his mind about Harbaugh, though it seems unlikely. After all, if he hired Rex Ryan over Harbaugh the first time, well…

More than likely though, all of that speculation is moot as it seems to be all but a done deal that Harbaugh will be headed to Michigan at the end of the season. Especially since the Niners are reportedly planning to make any other NFL team pay dearly for Harbaugh to reduce the embarrassment if he goes to another team and takes them to say, the Super Bowl. In other words, they’d prefer if he goes to Michigan too.
As for the Jets, it’s not clear whether they will only be firing Rex Ryan or if GM John Idzik is also on the chopping block. Some of the early words from Casserly indicated he doesn’t think much of the Jets roster or their draft picks, which directly reflects on Idzik.
