Wide receiver Michael Crabtree is heading towards free agency in 2015, and his future with the San Francisco 49ers is uncertain. When asked about it ahead of Christmas, Crabtree was reluctant to discuss it.
“It depends,” Crabtree said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “I don’t even want to talk about it. It’s just one those things – I don’t even want to talk about it. I’m not going to talk about a contract or anything like that.””
It could be in part that Crabtree has struggled and contributed to the 49ers overall struggles. He is among the league leaders in drops and his production isn’t anywhere close to what it once was.
That certainly hasn’t helped Crabtree’s bargaining power or made him a must-have player worthy of a large contract.
This could stem back to his Achilles injury which kept him out for most of the 2013 season, though he was pretty solid and a big addition to the 49ers offense when he returned late last season and the post season.
It will be an interesting situation to watch unfold in the offseason.
