When Anderson Varejao fell to the court against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night, it was feared that his injury could be long term but no one thought it would be as bad as it ended up being. David Blatt said after the Cavaliers win that the injury was an ‘ankle injury of some sort’, but things got a lot worse on Christmas Eve for Varejao and the Cavaliers.
It wasn’t an ankle injury that Varejao suffered, rather it was an Achilles tendon tear that will sideline him for the remainder of this regular season.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski from Yahoo! Sports, Anderson Varejao is going to miss the rest of the season with that torn Achilles.

Cleveland had been trying to find a replacement for Varejao in the lineup as he had been slumping as of late. Trade rumors began to get kicked up with his poor play, which has a lot to do with the three-year extension Varejao signed at the end of October.
With Varejao no longer an option this season, the Cavaliers are now even more desperate for a center than they were before. This also takes the possibility of trading Varejao off the table, as he is no longer the asset he may have been.
