The Washington Nationals outfielder surprised the children of a fallen solider at the team’s Youth Baseball Academy on Monday, according to Washington Post.

Here’s how the surprise unfolded:

"Michael and Alexa McIlvaine arrived at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy in Southeast on Monday expecting to tour the facility with other children from the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), which provides support for the families of fallen military servicemen and women. They were in for a surprise. While Michael and Alexa took turns in the academy’s batting cages, Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth entered the room with his sons, Jackson and Judah, and introduced himself. Werth worked with both Michael and Alexa on their baseball fundamentals, signed autographed and shared a few laughs."

That’s truly an awesome thing for Werth to do and kudos to him for stepping up for a family that could use a few laughs in what is surely a difficult time for them.

Christmas is a time of giving and Werth went above and beyond to give one family an incredible experience.

Werth batted .292 with 16 home runs and 82 RBI this past season.  The 11-year veteran is a career .276 hitter with 186 home runs and 659 RBI.
