My first console experience was with a Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES if you would prefer. Yes, I started with the NES. I never had an Atari or any other pre-Nintendo system. I’m sorry to have disappointed you. I know I’ve let you down.
While I didn’t get the joy of opening up that console myself, it was my brother’s, I did get to when I got my SNES. I remember just tearing that gift-wrap apart, opening it as quickly as I could. I couldn’t wait to play it. I hooked it up as quickly as humanly possible and played for hours. I was hooked. I remember when I got the Nintendo 64, I remember when I camped out for the Gamecube, and I remember when I went to GameSpot at midnight when the Wii was released. Video games have had an important part of my life for as long as I can remember.
I’m sure you all have that moment as well. Your first experience with a console. Perhaps you have the same memory of tearing open the wrapping paper to be greeted with your console of choice. It’s a big moment, an emotional moment. One you’ll remember for a long time.
So check out this video of Karem Piedra-Jimenez opening what will be his new PS4. His girlfriend bought it for him as a surprise after some unforeseen circumstances prevented him from buying it himself. It’s a great video. It immediately reminds you of those childhood moments when you peel back the paper just enough to see a glimmer of the gift and then just destroy the paper to get to it. It’s funny how some gifts can still bring out the child in us.
Bonus video of N64 kid, obviously.
