No Pro Bowl Alternate Trip For Titans DT Jurrell Casey
By Phil Watson
Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jurrell Casey was not picked for the Pro Bowl in the initial results released Tuesday and said he won’t go as an alternate.
It’s reminiscent of former St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Garry Templeton, who was famously quoted 1979 about the MLB All-Star Game, “It I ain’t startin’, I ain’t departin’.”
Of course, Templeton never said it—it was a paraphrase by Hall of Fame broadcaster Jack Buck to summarize Templeton’s feelings about not being voted in as a starter.
But still, when Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jurrell Casey was asked about his status as a second alternate for the Pro Bowl, he made it clear where he stood:
No one from the 2-13 Titans was selected, but Casey has had a terrific season, just the same. The fourth-year pro out of USC has 65 tackles—a career-high—to go with five sacks.

There were six defensive tackles selected: Marcell Dareus and Kyle Williams of the Buffalo Bills, Ndamukong Suh of the Detroit Lions, Dontari Poe of the Kansas City Chiefs, Aaron Donald of the St. Louis Rams and Gerald McCoy of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
McCoy has a knee injury, though, and Suh might have to opt out if the Lions qualify for the Super Bowl (waiting for the laughter to subside).
OK, moving on.
The Pro Bowl is in Glendale, Ariz., this year, meaning players won’t even have the incentive of the free trip to Hawaii.
And if history is any indicator, about 25 percent of the guys announced for the Pro Bowl will actually play in it. So Casey’s phone is likely to ring at some point about going.
