Report: Josh Smith Has Committed To Signing With Houston Rockets
By Sam Richmond
Josh Smith has committed to signing with the Houston Rockets, according to a new report.
Josh Smith is joining Dwight Howard, James Harden and the Houston Rockets.
Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowsi first reported that Smith plans to sign with the Rockets once he clears waivers on Wednesday.
Smith heads to the Rockets after a disappointing stint with the Detroit Pistons that culminated with Detroit outright releasing him on Monday. Prior to his release, Smith was averaging 13.1 points on 39.1 percent shooting from the floor, 24.3 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 46.8 percent shooting from the foul line this season.
Undoubtedly there are concerns about Smith harming the Rockets with his inefficient play. The Rockets already rank 28th in the NBA with a team field goal percentage of 42.5 percent. Adding a gunner like Smith, whose shot selection is laughable at this point, could be dangerous.
But there’s no denying Smith can help Houston from a rebounding and defensive standpoint. Smith averaged 7.2 rebounds per game this before his released and currently ranks 15th in Defensive Real Plus-Minus, according to ESPN.
It will certainly be interesting to see if Smith’s positives outweigh his glaring negatives in Houston.
Smith will have a major role with the Rockets, per an earlier reporter form ESPN’s Marc Stein.
