Auburn wide receiver D’haquille Williams didn’t practice at all before the team headed to Tampa, Fla., for the Outback Bowl and he didn’t travel with the team, either.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn told reporters Friday that leading receiver D’haquille Williams will join the Tigers in Tampa, Fla., for the Outback Bowl … at some point.

Alex Byington of the Opelika-Auburn News reported from the welcome dinner:

"“Yeah, he’s on his way,” Malzahn said after the dinner. “He and Cassanova McKinzy are both running late.”"

The coach didn’t talk about Williams’ status for the game or the illness that sidelined him for all seven practices prior to the team’s Christmas break.

Williams, a junior, had 45 catches for 730 yards and five touchdowns in his first year at Auburn after transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

He missed two games late in the season with a knee sprain before returning for the Iron Bowl loss to Alabama, making seven catches for 121 yards.

McKinzy, a junior linebacker, was second on the team with 82 tackles and led the team with 10 tackles for loss.

Williams is said to be contemplating whether or not to declare for the NFL Draft, but Byington reported that the player didn’t file paperwork with the NFL Draft Advisory Board.

Williams posted a picture of himself on Instagram that showed a bloodshot left eye and a bruised left cheek, but later deleted the post.

Auburn plays Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1.
