Irving’s injury is officially being diagnosed as a left knee contusion. The Cavs’ point guard has been dealing with issues in his left knee for quite some time. After originally hurting the knee on Dec. 11 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Irving reaggravated it on Christmas against the Miami Heat and now it appears he has had another setback.
It’s a tough break for the Cavs, who recently lost starting center Anderson Varejao for the rest of the season due to an achilles injury. More than ever before, Irving’s health is key if the Cavaliers are going to get back on track after a disappointing 17-11 start to the season.
But, as Irving acknowledged, it’s the LeBron James show now with the point guard out.
Irving is averaging 20.2 points, 5.3 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game this season.
The Cavaliers drafted Irving with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft out of Duke.
