West Virginia QB Clint Trickett Retires From Football Due To Concussions
By Jack Crosby
West Virginia quarterback Clint Trickett will not play for the Mountaineers on Monday, nor will he ever play football again, we learned on Friday.
West Virginia Mountaineers quarterback Clint Trickett will be retiring from football, he announced to the media on Friday. It was announced first that Trickett would be out of the Liberty Bowl contest on Monday against Texas A&M, then we learned that he has decided to retire from the game of football altogether.
The reasoning behind the retirement? Well, apparently Trickett has been dealing with some serious concussion issues recently, making the move to hang up the cleats a rather easy one to make.
Now while the hiding from the trainers part was not the best move in the world, this one on Friday is. Plus, he should have no problem with a smooth transition into coaching. His father, Rick, is currently the offensive line coach for the Florida State Seminoles, where Clint once played.
After it was fairly obvious that Jameis Winston was going to win the starting quarterback job in Tallahassee prior to last season, Trickett decided that it was time to move on. With him having his undergraduate degree already, he immediately caught on with West Virginia, a place his family knew all too well.
Trickett had a solid final campaign of football in 2014, throwing for 3,285 yards with 18 touchdowns in leading West Virginia to a 7-5 record. The highlight of his year was the upset that he led the team to over Baylor, handing the Bears their only loss of the season.
