Welcome to this week’s edition of Buying Low. Today we are going to focus on going out and buying some guys who I believe are primed to return from injury, or possibly benefit from a second half of the year trade and really see a huge increase in value. Making trades in fantasy sports is all about increasing the value that your team has.

It really is that simple. Most people who I play in leagues with are reluctant to make trades, and especially to trade guys who are performing at or near their ceiling. But if you were to look at it from a real estate perspective that is exactly how the rich real estate guys get richer. They buy properties and then fix them up or sit on them until their values improve, and then resell them for a profit.
If you are a fantasy sports player and you are scared or think that trading isn’t necessary to win leagues, you are really missing out on what I feel may be the best part of the game. Fantasy NBA is probably the easiest sport to pull these kinds of deals off also, because there are not as many variables as football. You can usually take all the factors of a player with things like risk, hot or cold streaks, playing time, injuries to teammates and so on. Sure, there is risk with anything, but there is also an equal amount of risk by not trading.
