Should Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James regret leaving the Miami Heat in free agency?
LeBron James made his first trip back to Miami to face the Heat since leaving for the Cleveland Cavaliers this past offseason on Christmas Day, and ended up heading home with a loss. He chose to leave due to the aging roster that was in Miami, and decided to start fresh with his old team. The Cavaliers then brought in Kevin Love to join him and Kyrie Irving, but things haven’t been too impressive to start the season.

Cleveland is currently sitting at 17-11 on the season, but there have been major concerns already. The three stars haven’t been able to co-exist so far, and the bench has little to no depth depending on the night.
Miami on the other hand is just 14-16 on the season after the big win over Cleveland, but they have seen injury issues for both Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. They were able to knock the Cavaliers off without Bosh even playing, and Wade has looked like the superstar that he was when James first joined the Heat.
Should James regret leaving Miami and giving up on the veteran roster a bit too early to join a younger team in Cleveland?
The easy answer to that question is, without a doubt he should regret leaving the Heat. While they were blown out by the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals last season, they still made it to the championship four straight seasons in a row and won two of them.
Wade dealt with quite a few injury issues over the last two seasons, and he was simply exhausted during the NBA Finals last year. He looked like a superstar against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, and Chris Bosh was playing solid basketball as well. Returning to Cleveland was definitely something that he needed to do at some point in his career, but he made the decision to return too early.
One thing that can never be replaced is experience and a team that has been built together to win. The Heat had a very solid bench and they were constructed perfectly around the big three. Cleveland had no clue what they were doing, and didn’t come close to building a bench that could withstand one of the better benches in the NBA on a contender.
James, Wade, and Bosh fit together perfectly, and they were all willing to make the extra pass for success. Shot selection wasn’t an issue, because each player knew that they didn’t have to be the go-to guy or put up the huge stats every night. That doesn’t appear to be the case in Cleveland.
Love hasn’t worked out well at all, and Irving is still having issues adjusting to being a true point guard rather than the number one scoring option. James hasn’t been all that consistent either due to all of the issues that have formed, and first-year coach David Blatt is lost as well.
If James had returned to the Heat, they would likely still be the number one or two seed in the Eastern Conference. They had figured out the perfect system for success, and it simply hasn’t been able to be transferred to the Cavaliers.
All of that being said, it is still very early on in the season for the Cavaliers. They have the talent to turn things around and get back on track, but the stars have to work together much better than they have thus far. James needs to take more of a leadership role, but even that might not save their season and turn them back into championship contenders.
A point was made by the Heat with the win over James, and that is that he should have stuck around. They are still a team to keep an eye on when the NBA playoffs roll around, and are more than capable of competing with the better teams in the league despite their bad record.
There is no question that James should regret leaving the veteran team that he had in Miami to return to Cleveland.
