Pitt made the news official on Friday that Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi will be the next head football coach.
The Pittsburgh Panthers have their new head coach, and as expected over the course of the past week, it is indeed Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi. This hire makes Narduzzi the 37th head coach in the history of the Panthers program.

After three years at the helm in the Steel City, Paul Chryst recently left the program to head back to Wisconsin, who was in need of a head coach as well following the loss of Gary Andersen just days after they were blown out in the Big Ten Championship Game.
But the big story here on Friday is that a college football program looking for a head coach was finally able to lure Narduzzi away from East Lansing, which no doubt made a lot of teams in the Big Ten very happy on Friday.
During his tenure as the defensive coordinator at Michigan State, Narduzzi built one of the best defenses in the entire country. Last year the Spartans were able to capture the Big Ten title, as well as the Rose Bowl, mainly because of the efforts of the vaunted defensive unit.
As for why Narduzzi has been such a coveted prospect as a head coach, well, that has a lot to do with the way he can successfully develop talent.
Narduzzi helped develop 4 1st team All-Americans: D. Dennard, K. Drummond, G. Jones & J. Worthy. They came in as 3 3-Stars & a 2-Star. #Pitt

No matter who has been at the helm over the past decade, Pitt has always seemed to underwhelm. Now we’ll see if they finally have the man that can buck that trend.
