When the Cleveland Cavaliers signed LeBron James this summer, the thought was that it would be something that draws Ray Allen to north Ohio and away from possible retirement. Other teams like the Los Angeles Clippers, Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs all got in on the race for Ray Allen but it appears no one has won — nor will they win.

Ray Allen took the summer to decide what he wants to do with his future and gave retirement a test run by not signing anywhere with any team. Retirement has apparently fit him better than he expected, as a return to the NBA seems unlikely at this point.

According to Brian Windhorst from ESPN, the chances that Ray Allen decides to play basketball in a professional manner every again are dwindling as he’s now leaning towards retirement.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are falling off into another hot-and-cold stretch of a season they’ve never been able to jump start while the Spurs, Clippers and Mavericks all have other priorities at the moment.

Ray Allen was all but certain to be coming back to the NBA this year, but it now looks like he’s going to just call it a career.
