In a long line of fantastic plays that college football bowl season has brought us this year, comes another one courtesy of South Carolina quarterback Dylan Thompson in Saturday’s Duck Commander Independence Bowl.
The South Carolina Gamecocks are currently playing the Miami Hurricanes in the Independence Bowl. Midway through the second quarter, leading 7-6, the Gamecocks were drove the football into Miami territory to the 15-yard line. Facing pressure on the outside from Miami linebacker Thurston Armbrister, Thompson scrambled all the way back to almost the 30-yard line before scrambling 10 yards forward back the other way to the sideline to around the 2o-yard line.
Rather than running for more yards to regain field position or running out of bounds, Thompson, displaying great field awareness while throwing on the run, threw between four Miami defenders and found Junior receiver Mike Davis in the back of the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown pass and extended the Gamecocks lead over the Hurricanes.
Thompson made what will likely be a Sportscenter Top 10 play, and it payed off big time putting the Gamecocks up 14-6 on the Hurricanes and they currently lead the game 17 – 6 at the half in Shreveport.
