Florida Gators fifth-year senior quarterback Jeff Driskel is exploring a possible transfer to the Duke Blue Devils to finish his college football career.

Jeff Driskel’s tenure at Florida has not lived up to the expectations befitting a former top recruit as injuries, poor performance and a bevy of coaching changes has resulted in a disappointing four years in The Swamp.

With a new coaching staff coming to Gainesville and Driskel benched in favor of true freshman Treon Harris last season he is looking to explore his options in a new home.

According to the Charlotte News & Observer, Driskel has sent a release to the Duke Blue Devils so they can contact him. Duke is one of the schools he is reportedly considering to transfer, although the report doesn’t disclose the other programs he is considering.

Driskel will be eligible to play immediately if he transfers because he has already completed his undergrad requirements.

Duke will be losing Anthony Boone to graduation after their bowl game and redshirt sophomore Thomas Sirk and redshirt freshman Parker Boehme have attempted only 16 passes so an experienced option could intrigue head coach David Cutcliffe who has a reputation for developing quarterbacks.

Driskel looks at Duke as his last chance to salvage his college career. He won 11 games as a sophomore, his first year as a starter, and led the Gators to the Sugar Bowl, so he has shown he can have a modicum of success.

What followed the next two years was a junior year that began with a number of interceptions and then a broken leg to end his season and his senior year saw more inconsistency from the turnover prone signal-caller before losing his job to Harris.

Driskel completed 54 percent of his passes for 1,092 yards, nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions as a senior.
