The New York Jets 2014 season didn’t go as expected and head coach Rex Ryan didn’t build upon the finish to the 2013 season, when the team went on a 3-1 streak during the final four tames of the season.
Ryan’s status with the Jets has been up in the air all season, and upon finding out that Jets owner Woody Johnson brought in Charley Casserly as a consultant to seek out head coaching candidates, he took the hint.
From NJ.com:
"Ryan has not yet been informed of his fate, a person familiar with his thinking said. But that same person also said Ryan had learned Casserly was contacting other coaching candidates, and that Ryan had already cleared out his office at One Jets Drive."
It makes you wonder if Ryan knows more than has been leaked out or made known to the public. Perhaps Johnson gave Ryan the courtesy of letting him know that he was exploring other options instead of Ryan finding out about Casserly’s hiring and task and just assuming his tenure was up.
But this is the New York Jets, so that probably didn’t happen.
