Nebraska Players Honor Bo Pelini With Empty Seat On Team Bus (Photo)

The Nebraska Huskers are playing in the Holiday Bowl today, but they’re doing so without head coach Bo Pelini, who was fired after the regular season ended but hasn’t been forgotten by his team.
Bo Pelini helped lead the Nebraska Corn Huskers to more than a few major successes over his tenure with the team, but nothing he did was enough to save his job after the 2014 season wrapped up. Pelini was fired after a disappointing season but it wasn’t something his players were very happy about.

To protest the firing of Pelini, the Huskers left a seat open on the team bus ride to the Holiday Bowl on Saturday, honoring their dearly departed coach. Huskers staffer Austen Everson tweeted out the equivalent of pouring one out for Bo Pelini, showing the world that while he may be gone, the players he was forced to leave behind have not forgotten him at all.
Pelini is now the head coach of Youngstown State, where he will look to build that program into a powerhouse and restore his reputation as a top coach in the country. Nebraska found a suitable replacement with Mike Riley but it’s going to take a while for the players to get over losing Pelini and get in line with what Riley is going to install.
