Prior to the season we all discussed a few teams that could rise to the top in the East. It was the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers and everybody else. The Toronto Raptors, however, are proving that Canada’s team is no joke as they handily defeated the Los Angeles Clippers today, 110-98.
Point guard Kyle Lowry once again turned out to be the stud of the game. His 25 points and seven assists helped snap the Clippers eight-game home winning streak.
More important than the fact that Toronto won the game was that they did it showing no rust coming off a four-day break, and winning this one with ease against one of the monsters from the big-bad West.
The game was knotted up at 49 at halftime, but with a little help from Lowry and the bench Toronto pulled away.
Late in the third-quarter, Lowry scored seven-points which stretched the lead to 76-68. He nailed a three, finished strong on a layup and hit a jumper. The three basic shots any basketball player needs to perfect, Lowry did flawlessly during that 51-second span.
Jonas Valenciunas shot 8 of 13 going for 22 points and chipping in with 11 rebounds. Bench players Patrick Patterson and Greivis Vasquez each contributed with 10 and 16 points respectively.
The Raptors now have a sparkling record of 23-7, still best in the East and continuing their trend of shocking all of us.
