The 5-27 New York Knicks have the most losses in the NBA. Not even the horrid Philadelphia 76ers can compete with this level of ugliness, and now, Carmelo Anthony has once again left a game due to injury.
Anthony complained of knee soreness during the Knicks Saturday night overtime loss to the Sacramento Kings, but said he felt like he needed to play because the team only dressed nine players. Now, it’s gotten worse and the team only has eight healthy, dressed players in total.
During the second quarter of tonight’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Melo was seen grimacing in pain. Nobody knows if the injury is related to yesterday’s game or whether he did something tonight to spur it on, but he left the game and it was quickly determined that he wouldn’t return.
About the possibility of him sitting out, Anthony had this to say after the Kings game on Saturday night.
From the NY Daily News:
"“It would be a thought,” Anthony said. “For me right now, it’s hard to look at the bench and see [guys]in a suit. It’s hard for me to tell myself to just sit it down right now. If I can go, I can go, regardless of how much I’m hurting.”"
There’s no question about him playing or not tonight. As his Knicks are getting their doors blown off by the Blazers, currently 95-70 with just over three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Melo is in the locker room pondering is health.
The only question for Knicks fans now is how hard will Phil Jackson and company fight to tank the rest of the season as they compete with those terrible 76ers.
