The Dallas Cowboys entered today looking to come up with a big win against their division rival Washington Redskins to end the regular season, but there was even more history on the line.
Star running back DeMarco Murray needed just 29 rushing yards to pass former superstar Emmitt Smith as the Dallas Cowboys’ leading all-time single-season rushing leader. He has passed that number and more already this afternoon against the Redskins, and has earned his place in Cowboys’ history.
Obviously this is a huge accomplishment for Murray, and it really shows just how good of a season he has been having. He has been hobbled with injury issues throughout the majority of his career, but this year showed what he is capable of when he can stay on the field.
Media outlets immediately responded with a ton of tweets and congratulatory messages for Murray, and he deserves all of them.
Needless to say, this is an emotional moment for Murray. He has carried the Cowboys on his back all season long, and is the main reason that they are the NFC East winners and legitimate playoff contenders. Dallas is a real threat moving forward as long as Murray can stay on the field.
