Jim Harbaugh Has ‘No Deal’ With Michigan, Yet
By Josh Hill
Jim Harbaugh is expected to take the head coaching job at Michigan, but he hasn’t yet committed and there is no firm deal in place.
It appears that the foregone conclusion of Jim Harbaugh taking a job at Michigan has been turned into a concrete report that may not exist yet. While there are multiple reports floating around that Harbaugh has agreed to become the next head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, contradicting reports has surfaced that suggests that hasn’t happened — yet.
Both Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter have reports out that Harbaugh has yet to receive or agree to a deal with Michigan to become their next head coach. This doesn’t mean that it won’t happen but it appears that the Ray Allen effect is in play here were something that is more than likely to happen is being reported as though it has happened when in fact, it hasn’t.
To further that report along, Rapoport reports that Harbaugh has not committed to the job in a public or private manner yet.
While this could be seen as a sign that Harbaugh may be still considering the NFL, it may end up being a move that is out of respect to the 49ers — who currently employ him for now. By not saying he’s taking the Michigan job, Harbaugh is blocking any sort of leak that could see his team take the field on Sunday knowing full well that their head coach has completely checked out.
It’s looking like Harbaugh will be the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, but the time is not now for the always mindful Harbaugh to go boosting about a new job while he still has at least another 12 hours in his current one.
