Doug Martin Leads Tampa Bay Buccaneers In Jersey Sales For 2014 Season
By Jack Crosby
Though he wasn’t on the field all that much in 2014, running back Doug Martin was the king of jersey sales for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had one of the worst seasons of any team in the NFL in 2014, however that doesn’t mean they didn’t have some popular players on their squad.
But of all the players that fans love on this lowly Buccaneers team, which one of them sold the most jerseys for the 2014 regular season?
Well, believe it or not, that distinction goes to none other than running back Doug Martin, who has missed a significant amount of time this season with injury.
According to the DICK’S Sporting Goods Jersey Report, which reflects sales both nationwide and online, Martin checked in at the end of the regular season at No. 75 overall on the list. He is right behind Bills QB EJ Manuel and just ahead of Bears veteran defensive back Charles Tillman.
This is a pretty incredible feat, again, mainly because of the time that Martin has missed on the field this season for the Bucs. He’s rushed for only 494 yards on 194 attempts and has hit the end zone just two times.
However, there is still hope for Martin to come back in 2015 better than ever and keep these jersey sales near the top of the list for the team. Because of the disappointing season, the Buccaneers have been awarded the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. That means that there is some help coming for a healthy Martin next season, more than likely at quarterback. A lot of running backs have thrived with a new person under center, and Martin could be the same.
