Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray didn’t hit the 2,000 yards rushing mark or come close to breaking Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record like some thought he might early in the season.
He did manage to break Emmitt Smith’s single season rushing record with the Dallas Cowboys though. Smith rushed for 1,773 yards during the 1995 season, and Murray finished the 2014 campaign with 1,845 yards.
And Smith couldn’t be happier to see Murray break his record.
“I couldn’t be happier for him,’’ said Smith, via the Dallas Morning News. “He is very deserving of this recognition. This is something that I know DeMarco will share with the whole team, because he knows that they all had a hand in his success.
“I am proud of him because I know how hard it is to do what he did this year. I am also proud because I’ve watched him bounce back from some injury setbacks in his first few years. He’s a worked through all that, and he deserves to have this record.
“I want him and the whole team to keep up this level of play and carry it into the playoffs.’’
