I’m sure this comes as no surprise to anyone. If it does, you clearly are not paying attention to football. Seeing as the Texans also really don’t have anyone else on their roster of interest besides maybe Arian Foster, Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins.
What is surprising though, is that the probable 2014 Defensive Player of the Year comes in at 122nd overall in jersey sales for the 2014 season. To go along with that, the Houston Texans rank dead last in jersey sales out of the entire NFL.

J.J. Watt had a ridiculous season this year that will most certainly win him Defensive Player of the year, and could even possibly win him league MVP. Watt recorded 20.5 sacks, 5 defensive touchdowns, 3 receiving touchdowns, 3 forced fumbles and 5 fumble recoveries.
To put this into perspective, J.J. Watt had as many touchdowns this season as Calvin Johnson. He also has more touchdowns this season than the likes of Giovani Bernard, A.J. Green, teammates DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson, Falcons wide receivers Roddy White and Julio Jones, and the entire Kansas City Chiefs receiving core. So, I’m a bit stumped as to why his jersey sales are as low as 122nd out of all NFL players.
Even though J.J. Watt ranks only 122nd overall in NFL player jersey sales, he makes up 72% of the Texans team sales. The next highest is Arian Foster at 22% of team sales. That is a combined 94% of teams sales just between Watt and Foster. That’s amazing.
Outside of Houston, the Texans really don’t get too much attention. It doesn’t help that they have to compete with one of the most popular teams in the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys, for popularity in the state of Texas. So, of course, the majority of Watt’s jersey sales are coming from the Houston area with a combined 48% of his jersey sales. The next highest area is the New Jersey/New York City area with 11%.
