Luke Kuechly Leads All Defensive Players In Jersey Sales For 2014 Season
By Jack Crosby
One year after he was named the defensive player of the year, Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly is the king of jersey sales in the NFL.
Generally in the NFL, there are not a lot of defensive players that garner themselves huge amounts of popularity. It takes a defensive player with a special amount of talent to be as popular as some of the players on the offensive side of the ball, but Luke Kuechly is one person that has that talent.
The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year is one of the better defensive players in all of the NFL, and that was evidenced once again this season as he helped the Panthers to the NFC South title.
But just how popular is Kuechly? Well to get a good idea about this, we can reference the DICK’S Sporting Goods Jersey Report, which reflects NFL jersey sales both nationwide and online. How many jerseys a player sells for a given year is a good gauge of how beloved a player is.
In Kuechly’s case, he was more popular than any defensive player in the entire NFL.
As you can see, Kuechly did so well that he landed in the Top 5 of all players in the league in 2014. This young man out of Boston College continues to make his mark on the NFL, and it doesn’t seem as if he plans on stopping any time soon.
On the season in 2014, he was a terror on the defensive side of the ball once again, racking up 153 tackles with an interception and three sacks. Kuechly means as much to the success of this Panthers team as anyone else, including Cam Newton.
