For instance Jim Schwartz, who went from being the Detroit Lions’ head coach to the Buffalo Bills’ defensive coordinator. Or Wade Phillips who went from being the Dallas Cowboys’ head coach to the Houston Texans’ defensive coordinator.
Former New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan, who was just let go Monday morning, won’t be one of them. According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Ryan has no interest in being a defensive coordinator, suggesting he is only open to head coaching positions.
There is also a report that Ryan would consider working on television if a head coaching position wasn’t offered too him. He even thinks he has a job in television lined up if an NFL team doesn’t call.
