The 2014 season is complete, which means that we now know which players finished on top of the NFL in a number of statistical categories. This includes how many fans have purchased the jersey for individual players.
According to Jersey Report, Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson led the team in jersey sales for the 2014 season. The Jersey Report tracks the sales of jerseys in DICK’s Sporting Goods stores around the country and online.
Wilson finished third overall in the NFL, behind Denver’s Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts. Wilson’s led the entire NFL in jersey sales a year ago.
Running back Marshawn Lynch finished finished second in jersey sales this season, despite reports of him possibly being traded at mid-season. There have also been reports that Lynch will be cut after the season, and that he might retire. These types of report tend to slow jersey sales for a player, but that hasn’t been the case for Lynch.
Both player have seen a major spike in jersey sales since the Seahawks have qualified for the postseason. Seattle clinched the No. 1 seed and home field advantage in the playoffs on Sunday.
Lynch is followed by 12th Man, which finished in third place in Seattle. The Seahawks retired the number 12 in 1984 in honor of their fans, and the #12 has been a huge jersey seller ever since.
Cornerback Richard Sherman finished fourth, followed by wide receiver Percy Harvin. Sherman finished fifth in the NFL for defensive players.
Harvin’s place on this list is interesting since he was traded to the New York Jets after five games this season. Harvin’s #11 was big seller after Seattle’s Super Bowl win last season. He was expected to be a huge part of Seattle’s bid to repeat, but instead became a malcontent and was shipped off the Jets.
Overall, Seattle finished second as a team in jersey sales. Only the Denver Broncos sold more jerseys than the Seahawks in 2014.
