New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said he believes the NFL will look into comments made by New York Jets owner Woody Johnson regarding upcoming free agents.

The New England Patriots have plenty of questions to answer even after they’ve embarked on another playoff run. With an explosive offense and a stout defense, the team has ascended to the top seed in the AFC with home field advantage straight through to the Super Bowl if they can make it that far. It’s the latter the team could worry about after their playoff run is all said and done.

A big part of this year’s success has been cornerback Darrelle Revis, who would be highly coveted in the free agent market. After New York Jets owner Woody Johnson publicly salivated over the prospect of Revis returning to the team that drafted him, Patriots coach Bill Belichick grumpily noted that he expects the NFL to look into those words. In other words, get your whooping stick out, Roger Goodell. Daddy aint happy.

“I would think that the league would look into those comments … I’m sure that’s something that they would look into,” Belichick told WEEI, per NFL.com.

That’s basically the Belichick equivalent of a dog going mad barking at a trespasser, closely guarding his sweet Revis. And who can blame Belichick? He finally has the secondary he wants and he’s not about to lose it to the nosy neighbor from downstairs.

Belichick probably has little to fear from the Jets, given the team’s disarray and lack of roster talent, but that’s not going to stop him from tossing a jab at an old foe less than two weeks before the team defends its home field in the divisional playoff round.
