Florida State Mascot Omitted From Disney Commercial
By Cory Buck
Florida State University’s official football mascot, Chief Osceola and his horse, Renegade, were omitted from a Disney commercial, which spurred confusion and controversy on social media.
A new Disney World commercial that plays on the upcoming college football playoff spurred some controversy when it failed to include the official mascot of Florida State University, given that it included those of the other three universities involved in the four-team playoff that will determine this year’ national championship.

Before we get any further into this, you should know that this probably doesn’t mean what you think it means. Florida State has a very tight policy regarding the commercial use of Chief Osceola and his horse, Renegade, which are depicted by actors from the Seminole Tribe, which supports the university’s use of Osceola’s likeness as a mascot.
While it hasn’t been confirmed, it’s likely that Disney simply couldn’t secure Chief Osceola for the commercial and thus went a different route. It’s also unlikely that the company is making any kind of stand against FSU for their use of a Native American mascot, like many have against the Washington Redskins.
You can watch the commercial for yourself here, and see that the FSU logo is visible, which undermines the idea that Disney is opposed to all things FSU and its likeness. For all we know, the omission was simply a result of the fact that it is a huge pain to fit a horse in an airport.
