Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins claims he never demanded a trade and that he’s looking forward to another year in the team’s system.

Demand is such a strong word, hardly indicative of an inclination held by one with little choice in a matter. Take Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins for instance. After it was tweeted out by a local reporter that he wanted to be traded if Robert Griffin III got the start over him in 2015, the words ‘trade demand’ surfaced all over the place. Cousins quickly took to the media to clarify the comments that led to the tweet.

“I don’t demand anything. I’m under contract,” Cousins said per CSN Washington. “I’m going to honor that contract if that’s what it comes to. I’m focused on getting better. We all know that I have a long ways to go. I have a lot of work to do. I had two awful quarters this year and threw nine interceptions, which is way too many. I have plenty to work on to get better.”

So he definitely wants out of Washington, but it’s not a demand probably because Cousins has no leverage and such.

Kirk Cousins may or may not be a better quarterback for a pro system than Robert Griffin III, but he has plenty of flaws of his own. He threw nine interceptions in six games played, leading to his benching even after RGIII established himself as a pretty rough option at QB as well.

Cousins may not want to play backup to a struggling quarterback anymore, but he’s still a team player. He noted that he wouldn’t be a distraction regardless of what the team does with him.

“If I’m the backup for my fourth year in Washington, then so be it. That’s God’s plan for me and I’m going to roll with it.”
