Former Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren claims a few teams have inquired about his availability.
Mike Holmgren takes retirement about as seriously as Stephen King. That is, he’s retired until there’s work to be done. Then he’s back on the job. The shtick hasn’t deterred NFL teams from inquiring about the former Super Bowl-winning coach who oversaw great runs of success with the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks. At least that’s what Holmgren said on a Seattle radio show.

This is annual rite of passage for those searching for coaches. Teams like the Oakland Raiders, New York Jets, and Atlanta Falcons will inevitably have to answer questions on whether or not they’re looking into Mike Holmgren, and for now no one is giving definitive answers as these teams wait for the playoffs to shake a few more candidates loose.
However, at 66 years old and with a long resume, Holmgren is neither cheap nor patient at this point in his career. Just ask the Cleveland Browns, who threw all kinds of money at Holmgren to build them a winner. In return, Holmgren traded up to draft running back Trent Richardson third overall.
Anyone who wants Mike Holmgren as their coach will likely have to give up some control of the roster building process. Given Holmgren’s recent history, that may not be the wisest course, but it likely won’t prevent at least one team from having a chat with the former coach, who seems eager to give it another go on an NFL sideline.
