In the NFL, a 6-10 season can get you fired. New York Giants owner John Mara has come out and said it’s an embarrassment. Yet head coach Tom Coughlin continues to hold a job.
This season was the second consecutive season that the New York Giants finished below .500 at 6-10. They were 7-9 in 2013. It only seems like they finish below .500 year after year. They had been 8-8 or better the previous eight seasons. They hadn’t finished 6-10 since 2004.
John Mara on Giants' season:"I’m sick about it, as a matter of fact. It’s not what any of us expected. 6-10 is an embarrassment."

I understand the sentiment. It does suck to finish 6-10. Mara does make it sound like this is a trend though. Well, if two years is a trend. The Giants have not made the playoffs since 2011, maybe that’s what’s really biting at Mara? However they made the playoffs five times between 2005-2011.
What is interesting here though is that despite all the rumors we hear during each season, at the end the Giants decide to retain Tom Coughlin. Now, the Giants have had their share of injuries like many other teams. However some other teams have been able to overcome their injuries.
On Monday it was announced that the Giants would retain Coughlin for the 2015 season. So then if you’re Mara, you have to demand changes elsewhere. If you don’t, then you are right back in the same spot at the end of December 2015. If something is broke, you have to fix it, otherwise don’t tell us your sorrows.
