The Chicago Bears have reportedly requested to interview Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase for their head coaching vacancy.
In their ongoing quest to sort out this Jay Cutler mess one way or the other, the Chicago Bears continue to stress the offensive in their initial search for a head coach after the team fired Marc Trestman a day after the season ended. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Bears have requested permission from the Denver Broncos to interview offensive coordinator Adam Gase for Chicago’s vacant head coaching position.

Rapoport also notes that Chicago isn’t the first team to make such a request. The Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers have reportedly done the same.
Gase can interview with teams during the week leading up to the wild card round because the Broncos have a first round bye. Once they begin preparation for the divisional round, Gase will of course be closed off to outside interviews.
This is the second year in which a coach-hungry club has approached Gase for a head coaching interview. The Cleveland Browns were rebuffed by Gase when he was preparing for last year’s Super Bowl.
The Bears are hoping to find someone who can either work with the struggling Jay Cutler or mold a new quarterback in lieu of Cutler. Gase has had plenty of success airing it out in Denver, but it’s hard to tell where the brilliance of Peyton Manning ends and that of Gase begins. We may not know until Gase escapes from beneath Manning’s shadow, which could make any of these openings attractive for the Broncos coordinator.
