Before big games, especially one that will send a winner to the championship game, opposing fans tend to like to have fun at the expense of the other team. However there are some items that should be considered sacred and off limits from the antics and sophomoric humor of attention seeking fans.

That didn’t stop some fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes who decided to travel to Tuscaloosa before the Sugar Bowl against No. 1 Alabama. Now maybe these Buckeyes fans don’t realize the game is played in New Orleans, or they went the extra mile to rub it in the face of the Crimson Tide. Regardless, they took their level of taunting pretty far.

Bear Bryant was considered by many to be one of the greatest college football coaches of all time, if not the greatest. He brought six national championships to Tuscaloosa and created one of the most legendary programs to ever play the game. He has a statue in his honor outside Bryant-Denny stadium which is also named after him along with many other things in Tuscaloosa.

So you would think his statue would be considered sacred and respected by everyone correct?

Wrong. Some Ohio State fans decided they would spell out “O-H-I-O” with the aid or Mr. Bryant.

Bryant, standing in as the “I” is something that should never be seen in the light of day. Luckily, the picture was taken at night, but still the actions of these Ohio State fans will certainly draw the ire of many. You can paint a team’s letters in rival colors or other low level pranks that aren’t harmful, but to have fun with something that is considered by iconic by many is taking it a little far.

Sophomore year of high school was certainly a joyous time for these types of pranks for many, but at some point you have to grow up and enjoy the game that you love in other ways. This is not one of those ways.

Now, it should be noted no harm was done to the statue and it was just a quick picture, but Bear Bryant is a legend, and legends should be left where they lie.

The Buckeyes have the fight of their life ahead of them and they are the underdog starting their third-string quarterback. If they lose, these fans might want to delete their photos.
