While sports fans could also be interested in watching the inaugural College Football Playoff over the Winter Classic, Washington coach Barry Trotz is hopeful the unique environment of the game will get the fans to tune in.

“I’m a football fan like most people in this country,” Trotz said, via ESPN. “I think there’s a lot of football and it’s great, but you also get tired of it, too, and I think the Winter Classic is that one thing that’s different during this time of year that I think everybody gravitates to.”

Capitals defenseman Brooks Laich was a little more direct about why everyone should tune in to watch.

“This is one of my favorite catchphrases to use of all time: `Who cares? It’s college,” he said. “I hope the rest of America has the same mindset I do.”

Regardless of who watches, we should expect a great and exciting game between the two teams.
