Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook did his best Marshawn Lynch impersonation when talking to the media on Wednesday.
The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, but it was not a great night for Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook.
Westbrook was ejected late in the second quarter of the game after receiving his second technical foul in the game for taunting Phoenix’s bench. T
he point guard received his first technical foul about 30 seconds of game action prior after getting into a scrap with Suns center Alex Len that had him steaming. The decision to eject Westbrook was questionable to say the least.
Naturally, Westbrook was still upset about what happened after the game, which led to the point guard doing his best impression of Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch by simply answering questions from the media with the same answer.

Here’s a portion of Westbrook’s post-game media session, courtesy of NewsOK.com:
"You think one of the Morris twin should have been ejected if they gave you that second technical?Good win for us.What did it mean to see Ish Smith step up, A-Mo step up, some of those guys? That was big for us. We did a good job of trusting everybody, giving big minutes.Would you have been more pissed about the ejection if it wasn’t a good win for us?It was a good win for us.You had 20 when you left the game. Feel like this could have been a career night?Big win for us."
You get the idea.
It appears Lynch, who conducted in an interview by answering every question by saying “yeah” in November, has started a trend, as Denver Broncos running back C.J Anderson and now Westbrook have employed the same strategy.
While it’s surely funny for some fans to see their favorite athletes toy with the media, the NFL and NBA certainly don’t enjoy it and one could expect the league to crack down on players handling interviews like this if it continues.
Westbrook finished the game versus the Suns with 20 points, four rebounds and four assists in 20 minutes.
Westbrook is having an outstanding season, with averages of 27.6 points (45.4 percent shooting from the field), 7.2 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game. He’s the biggest reason why the Thunder are right in the hunt for the Western Conference’s No. 8 seed at the moment.
Westbrook’s next chance to help the Thunder earn a “big win” is Friday against an impressive Washington Wizards squad.
