Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate responded to Dallas Cowboys safety Golden Tate, someone he has never heard of allegedly.

More from Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions are set to square off in the playoffs of a battle of teams with not a whole lot of playoff success as of lately. They’re not exactly rivals as teams, but Cowboys players are looking forward to playing one particular Lions player, specifically wide receiver Golden Tate.

The Cowboys are still upset about an illegal block Tate leveled on middle linebacker Sean Lee when he was still with the Seattle Seahawks. Cowboys safety Barry Church promised to avenge the hit in their playoff clash.

“That was the dirtiest shot that I’ve ever seen,” Church told KRLD-FM, via the Dallas Morning News. “We were talking about it on the way back from Washington, me and Sean. He was like, ‘Man I wish I could play so bad in this game just to give him a little payback to what he did in Seattle.’ Obviously he can’t play but we’re going to keep our radar out for him because that was a dirty shot. We’re looking forward to seeing him and we’ll definitely get him back for that, but it’ll be within the rules, within the rules.”

Tate responded with the typical, who is this guy approach.

“Man, I don’t know this guy,” said Tate, via the Detroit News. “I just now heard of him yesterday from this incident. He’s trying to get on the scene, I guess, so we’ll see.”

The he is just trying to get on the scene comment is interesting, since they’re the same age and came into the league at the same time. Perhaps it is indicative that Tate actually doesn’t know who Church is.

Tate isn’t worried though.

“I think I’m a tough guy who can take a lot of hits,” he said. “He may try to hit me and hurt himself.”

Church focusing too much on Tate and avenging a play from years ago might be a bad thing for the Cowboys defense. He might find himself cheating out of position on the field to be ready for Tate, in the process leaving the Cowboys defense and secondary vulnerable to Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.

It could also open up the field for Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who caught 14 passes for 329 yards and one touchdown the last time these two teams played.
