The Arizona Cardinals (11-5) travel to take on the NFC South champion Carolina Panthers (7-8-1) in the wildcard round of the NFL playoffs.

The Arizona Cardinals were one of the best teams in the NFL over the 2014 season, at one point having the best record in the league. Quarterback troubles saw them struggle down the end and they finished with an 11-5 record and a Wild Card spot, losing their division to the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

That means the Cardinals travel on the road to take on the Carolina Panthers in the Wild Card round of the NFC Playoffs. The Panthers were  a solid team that earned a first-round bye during the 2013 season, but this year earned a spot despite a sub-.500 record.

The Panthers aren’t getting down on their chances and think they can still get a win in the post season, viewing it as a clean slate and a fresh start.

“It tells you that no matter what you do during the regular season, it just doesn’t matter,” Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart said, via the Charlotte Observer. “Things amp up to a whole different notch in the playoffs.”

The Cardinals are still trying to sort out their own situation, with Ryan Lindley coming in at quarterback after Carson Palmer and then Drew Stanton were injured. The Cardinals were optimistic that Stanton would be able to return from a sprained knee for the first round of the playoffs but they officially ruled him out on Friday.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians has been supportive of Ryan Lindley, saying that he is not overwhelmed.

“That’s one thing that’s got everybody excited,” Arians said, via the Associated Press. “It’s not been too big for him. He’s as calm as you could be out there, and they all know he knows what he’s doing. That’s the confidence factor everybody has.”

To prove his point, Arians pointed to his big regular season games and the invaluable experience he gained.

“When you get experience in big games, and those were big games, it affects how you play,” Arians said. “I think he’s more than ready to play extremely well.”

It will be an intriguing match up to kick off the NFL Playoffs and see who can make it to the Divisional round.
