Carolina Panthers NFL Divisional Round Scenarios
By Josh Hill
The Carolina Panthers are on to the NFC Divisional Round, but they still aren’t sure who they will be playing.
It wasn’t much of a contest in the NFC Wild Card matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers, as Cam Newton and company rolled the Cardinals to end their season in disappointment. Things are far from disappointing for the Panthers though, as they’re on to the NFC Divisional Round and a matchup against one of the two best teams in their conference.

While the Panthers are on to the next round of the postseason, they have no idea who they are going to play. Everyone has a good idea of where the Panthers are headed — including the Panthers themselves — but nothing is certain.
As it stands now, the Carolina Panthers are the No. 2 seed in the NFC which has them slated to play the Seattle Seahawks, but only if the Dallas Cowboys beat the Detroit Lions on Sunday. If the Detroit Lions win on Sunday, then the Panthers will head to Lambeau Field to play Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.
The reason for this is because of the way the NFL seeding works in the pstseaosn. The lowest remaining seed out of Wild Card Weekend plays the highest seed in the second round. Because the Panthers are the No. 4 seed, they can only avoid playing the Seattle Seahawks if the No. 6 seeded Detroit Lions lose.
Dallas holds the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs, meaning a win by them is an instant ticket to Green Bay for what should be a classic showdown. That’s the matchup everyone wants to see, as the history between two epic franchises like Green Bay and Dallas is just too juicy to not want to slurp up.
Seattle and Carolina have already played once this season, and have done so twice in the last two years. Carolina didn’t win either of those matchups, but they have played the Seahawks close in both matchups and are primed for an upset if and most likely when that matchup happens next weekend.
