Chicago Bears not interested in Rex Ryan as head coach
The Chicago Bears have no general manager and no head coach after firing Phil Emery and Marc Trestman the day after the regular season mercifully ended, but you can scratch the name of Rex Ryan off the list of potential Bears coaching candidates.

Who the next head coach of the Bears will be remains a mystery following the dismissal of the in-over-his-head Marc Trestman but it won’t be former New York Jets head coach, Rex Ryan, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
Ryan is the son of legendary Bears defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan who coached the 1985 Super Bowl defense that is widely-regarded as one of the best defenses of all-time and was fired after a 4-12 season with the Jets.
The Jets were one of the few teams with a worse record than the 5-11 Bears this year who have had the worst two-year stretch defensively in franchise history. Prior to Ryan and Trestman being fired there were rumblings that Ryan would make sense in Chicago as a polar opposite of Trestman both in terms of personality and coaching philosophy.
Often times when a coach is fired the successor is the complete opposite, but while that may still happen, it won’t be Ryan, according to Florio who reports the Bears have no interest in Ryan who has a career record of 46-50 in six seasons.

The Bears have never hired a head coach who had previous head coaching experience so in that respect this bit of news doesn’t come as a complete shock, but to not even bring him in for an interview would seem to be short-sighted for a franchise who has a long history of bungling coaching searches and hires.
Then again, Ryan was 26-38 in his final four seasons in New York after going 20-12 in his first two that saw them lose in the AFC Championship Game both years.
Candidates the Bears are on record having an interest in are Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn who interviewed for the job on Friday night as well as Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase and former Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone.
Meanwhile, the Bears need to hire a general manager first and Kansas City Chiefs director of pro personnel Chris Ballard could be the front-runner after spending 12 years in Chicago when Jerry Angelo was the team’s general manager.
If Ballard does not get the GM job in Chicago, other candidates for the job include Giants VP of player evaluation Marc Ross, Ravens pro personnel director Vince Newsome and Titans VP of player personnel Lake Dawson have been linked in connection with the job.
