Jim Rome was a little harsh on college band members recently, but he seems to have seen the error in his ways.
Sports television and radio personality Jim Rome recently landed himself in a bit of hot water for some comments that he made in regards to college students who choose to be members of the school’s band. More or less, Rome got his “jock” on, as he flat out referred to them as “dorks” on twitter.
That moment @jimrome became public enemy #1 of bands across the world. You messed with the wrong dorks. #MarchOnRome pic.twitter.com/Q6BBYD8ios

Yeah, Rome pretty much made himself seem like that guy you talk to at your 30-year high school reunion that talks about the five touchdowns he scored when you were juniors in that game that one time at that one place.
But in all seriousness, Rome took a lot of heat for the comments, and rightfully so.
Recently, though, Rome realized that he had made a harsh mistake and apologized for the remarks that he made about the hard-working members of the band.
Band nation - I hear you. I was out of line. I apologize. I do not condone bullying of any kind and that was not my intent.

That was at least nice of him to man up and take responsibility for his actions. Nowadays on twitter you have people of his stature that make remarks like that and never look back. Well, they do look back, but try to defend their ways in a manner that only makes the matter worse than it was to begin with.
The sad part about all of this is that people don’t realize how much hard work these kids put into the band. Much like the athletes they take the field after, they go through practices, as well as school work. They have just about the same difficult schedule that the athletes do, so they deserve much the same amount of respect that we give to the players.
