CBS Sports’ coverage of the playoff game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts included a view from the back of a bald eagle during the pregame ceremonies.

So that’s what they mean by a bird’s-eye view.

Thanks to a small camera mounted on the back of a bald eagle that was released for a quick flight before the kickoff of the AFC Wild Card playoff between the Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, viewers of the broadcast got to get a look at that aerial perspective.

It was pretty amazing, in all honesty; reminiscent of parachuting, only without the danger of smashing into a tree … or the ground … or something else.

For someone who is much, much closer to being a half-century old than I should be, the continuing miniaturization of technology is still fascinating, opening doors to seeing and experiencing things that would have been unimaginable or seemed like science fiction a few decades ago.

Honestly, I still get that feeling sometimes when I use my cellular phone. It’s like being on Star Trek, only we’ve managed to merge the communicator and the tricorder into one hella handy device.

There are some parts of it I still don’t get—the next selfie I take will be my first—but all in all, there are reminders like bald-eagle cam that we live in a truly remarkable age of exploring new technological frontiers.
