When a team wins during an ESPN NFL broadcast, a player usually comes out to talk to the crew of Steve Levy, Steve Young, Trent Dilfer and Ray Lewis. After the Panthers’ Wild Card round 27-16 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, Cam Newton came out to talk to the ESPN crew as part of his post game routine.
Newton threw for two touchdowns in the win and was an integral part of Carolina’s Wild Card round victory over the Cardinals.
Newton then proceeded to shake the hands of each analyst standing in line with a traditional handshake, but gave Ray Lewis a little bit different of a greeting than the others.
Newton, joyous after his first-ever career playoff victory, was very excited to see the former Ravens linebacker and gave him the most love of anyone on ESPN staff. Lewis proceeded to get a handshake and a hug from the Panthers’ franchise quarterback.
So maybe Newton has his favorites on the ESPN staff and may have taken note of things they might have said earlier this year after the Panthers were dismantled by the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. Whatever the case may be, Ray Lewis appears to be his favorite.
Newton and his Panthers will now travel to either the Seattle Seahawks or Green Bay Packers for next week’s Divisional Round game. Maybe for Newton’s sake a little luck rubbed off from the handshakes from these former Super Bowl winners.
