Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin said Sunday that coach David Blatt is not in danger of losing his job.
David Blatt’s job is safe, so says Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin.

Although rumors have swirled that Blatt doesn’t have the trust of his players and could lose his job, Griffin backed Blatt fully to reporters on Sunday.
From ESPN:
"“This narrative of our coaching situation is truly ridiculous,” Griffin told reporters on Sunday. “It’s a non-story, it’s a non-narrative. Coach Blatt is our coach, he’s going to remain our coach. Do not write that as a vote of confidence. He never needed one. It was never a question. So don’t write it that way.”"
"Griffin rejected the notion that Blatt’s job is in jeopardy, saying, “No change is being made, period.”“It’s such a ridiculous assertion. It seemed giving life to it is what would happen by talking about it so I didn’t want to do that,” Griffin said. “At the same time it’s just time for everybody to get on with it. We have a chance to galvanize ourselves and grow and move in a positive direction so I want to make sure we’re doing that in a fresh environment.”"
Given all the reports that have suggested the Cavs were contemplating a change, it’s hard to believe Griffin when he claims that Blatt’s job was never in danger.
Regardless, it certainly appears as if Blatt will be coaching in Cleveland for at least the remainder of the season after Griffin’s strong words.
The Cavaliers have struggled mightily during Blatt’s first season as an NBA coach. Thought to be a team that could finish with the best record in the Eastern Conference heading into the season, the Cavs are just 19-15 and find themselves with just the conference’s fifth best record.
As the Cavs have continued to lose more than expected, the uncertainty around Blatt has heightened. LeBron James’ recent tepid endorsement of Blatt certainly didn’t quiet those that believed Blatt’s stay in Cleveland could be short.
But it appears LeBron actually is in favor of keeping Blatt because one would figure that if James wanted Blatt to be fired, he’d be fired.
The Cavs fell to the Dallas Mavericks 109-90 on Sunday, their fourth loss in five games.
