When a fan of Leicester City took his nephew to Liverpool on New Year’s Day to see a Premier League match, he wound up stranded. But a complete stranger came through.
In an age when social media is derided often for showcasing everything that is wrong with society and humanity in general, it’s great to get an example of just how social media can also be a life saver.

A fan of Leicester City, a club in the English Premier League, took his 10-year-old nephew to Liverpool for a match on New Year’s Day between the two teams and after the 2-2 draw, the fan and his young charge got in a taxi to go to the train station for the trip back to London.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the cab driver took them to the wrong station. So not only did they miss the last train home for the night, they were also out the roughly $83 for the taxi ride.
Stranded and broke with a 10-year-old in tow is a scary situation.
So the fan went to Reddit and posted this:
"I’ve been told to put something here because someone might be able to help me better. I’m currently visiting Liverpool with me nephew, we managed to get some tickets for the match (we’re city fans) so we got the train up from London early this morning with the intentions of watching the match then making our way back to the train station to catch our return train back to London. When the game ended we managed to get into a cab. I’m sure I said to the driver lime street train station but he ended up taking us to a train station near Liverpool airport and charged us £54.20. Half way into the journey I asked the cab driver was he going the correct way and he said he was. I thought to myself maybe we had gotten off at the wrong train station when we first arrived. To cut this long story short, I spent the last of my spending money on a cab to the wrong train station. We had to walk all the way from the airport back to the city, there were no buses running which was strange. By the time we got back to lime street our train had departed and there were no other trains leaving to London until tomorrow.I’m in a s***ty situation right now, mainly because of myself, lime street station has just closed so we don’t know where else to go. My aunt who lives near Cardiff is coming up to Liverpool tomorrow afternoon to collect us both so until then I was wondering if anybody knows any indoor public places we could wait until then? It’s freezing and I don’t want to be walking around with my 10 year old nephew at night."
A user on Reddit named “OfficePlum” replied with this:
"Wait near the main entrance to Lime Street (the entrance facing the big TV screen) and I’ll give you the money for a hotel room and a taxi so you can get there safety. I’ll be there in about 15 minutes."
The meeting went off as planned, the man and his nephew had a room to sleep in and were able to get some food and all’s well that ended well.
“OfficePlum” said on Reddit that “… taxi drivers like that give the city a bad name. Have a safe journey home.”
Wow. Talk about your random acts of kindness.
Reddit users poured forth to hail the rescuer, who reminded us that there can still be a sense of community in a fast-paced, ego-driven world.
