Wade Phillips could soon be back in the NFL. According to reports, Phillips is scheduled to interview for the Washington Redskins‘ defensive coordinator job.

What if I told you: former NFL head coach and defensive coordinator Wade Phillips could return to the league, after spending more than one year away from coaching? Sure, that would be the world’s most boring ESPN 30 for 30 special, but it is possible thanks to our offensively named friends in the nation’s capital.

According to reports, Wade Phillips is set to interview for the defensive coordinator position in Washington, now that the team is in search of a new assistant to replace Jim Haslett.

Phillips finished 2013 with the Houston Texans as the team’s head coach, before spending 2014 unemployed and on the open market.

Now, he could return, and reunite with his old pal A.J. Smith.

Smith and Wade Phillips previously worked together in the Buffalo Bills and San Diego Chargers organizations. Under Phillips, a number of defenses have seen plenty of improvement, so he would undeniably provide a boost for Washington.
