Mike Shanahan is one of the names that has been rumored to be receiving interest from multiple teams in need of a new head coach. He has had a very successful NFL head coaching career, although his last stop with the Washington Redskins definitely didn’t go according to plan.
At this point in time, the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders are just two of many open coaching jobs. Other teams that are searching for new head coaches include the New York Jets, Chicago Bears, and Atlanta Falcons.
Shanahan would make a lot of sense for both the Raiders and 49ers, and he has reportedly interviewed with both teams already.
Throughout his 21-year coaching career, Shanahan has led his teams to a 170-138 record, with his years coaching the Broncos producing 138 of those wins. The Oakland Raiders or San Francisco 49ers would be getting a very experience head coach that has proven he can win, and would immediately command the respect of every player in the locker room.
Both the Raiders and 49ers have their eyes on other candidates as well, but this report proves that Shanahan is in the running. He took a one-year break from football to rest up, but he sounds ready to get back into the game for one last run at another Super Bowl.
At 62 years of age, this would likely be Shanahan’s last stop in the NFL before retirement.
It is going to be fun to see how the coaching situations wind up when the offseason concludes. There are some very good jobs available and others that would be great legacy builders. San Francisco is one of the best jobs out there, while turning the Raiders franchise around would be the stuff of coaching legend.
