The Oakland Raiders may be hiring a head coach by the end of this week.

One of the several head coaching vacancies in the NFL may be filled soon, as Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle thinks the Oakland Raiders could hire a head coach by this Friday.

While the Raiders don’t present as good of an opportunity to win out of the gates as a San Francisco 49ers or Atlanta Falcons, Oakland is in a good position in regards to the future.

The biggest reason? They may have finally stumbled upon a franchise quarterback in Derek Carr. This past season, the 36th overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft threw 3270 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions.

With Khalil Mack, the likely winner for AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year, a great draft this springĀ could push the Raiders to compete for a Wild CardĀ spot next season.

The most recent coaching name to be connected to the Raiders coaching search (Raiders fans may want to close their eyes)? Former Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan.

Former New York Jets head coach Eric Mangini has also been connected to the Oakland Raiders search.
